On a prairie wildflower knoll west of Browning in view of Glacier’s peaks, the S Lodgepole Gallery and Tipi Village (U.S. 89, 2.5 mi/4 km west of Browning, 406/338-2787, www.blackfeetculturecamp.com, May-Sept., $70 first person, $10-16 pp for extras) provides an authentic experience in 10 traditional double-walled canvas tepees with inside fire pits and the ground for the floor. Supplied wood heats the tepees on cooler nights. Bring your sleeping bag, air mattress, and flashlight, or rent them ($12). A central bathhouse has flush toilets and showers. You can watch a small herd of nearly extinct Spanish mustangs, the original Indian horse, run free on the property. A Blackfeet art gallery and art classes are on-site, and the owners can arrange Blackfeet-guided tours, fishing trips, and horseback riding.
